API 682 PLAN 52

API 682 Plan 52 is used to contain emissions produced from the primary inboard seal of a dual unpressurized wet mechanical seal arrangement. The process fluid being sealed has a typically higher vapour pressure than atmospheric pressure at process temperatures.

This flush plan consists of a reservoir (seal pot) which contains a clean compatible buffer fluid. The reservoir operates at essentially atmospheric pressures with buffer fluid circulated from the mechanical seal via the internal pumping ring. Process leakage vaporizes in the reservoir and the system is connected to the facilities vapour recovery unit or flare. Transmitters are used to monitor buffer fluid level and reservoir pressure.
